Numismatic Information Central

Welcome to the Numismatic Information Section, home to everything you need to know about Numismatics (and if not, where to find it).

We are currently building a database of articles from which users can learn about new and exciting areas of the great hobby of Numismatics. This database should be online and searchable soon, but it is unfortunately not available at this time. Check back often for further updates.

Until then, you can try the following recommended reference books, most are available at your local bookstore or search wikipedia and Dictionary.com:

U.S. Coins

A Standard Catalog of United States Coins "The Red Book"

The Red Book contains amost everything you could need to know about the prices and history of United States Coins. It also inclues some pattern coins and tokens as well. Coins of the Philipines while under U.S. control are also included. The Red Book is the collector's essential book on U.S. Coins.

Foreign Coins

The Standard Catalog of World Coins

This book may be a little harder to find, but its value is no less. This book is published by Krause Publications in several volumes, so a collector should only buy the volume that he/she will need. This book can be a little pricey (up to $60 for a new copy), but older versions are cheaper and don't really differ much in the way of new data. Essentiall, with each new version, the publisher adds new coins and changes little else, unless a particular coin takes a leap in price.
